In the process of global response to climate change and energy security, more and more countries will vigorously develop offshore wind as a core measure. Especially in recent years, China’s offshore wind power industry has ushered in a stage of large-scale development, which has become an important support for promoting the ecological civilization construction, achieving low-carbon development and ensuring energy security. China has become the country with the highest installed capacity of offshore wind power in the world. It is expected that the offshore wind power market will continue to grow rapidly in the future. By 2027, the cumulative installed capacity of global offshore wind power will reach 181GW.
Since 2022, China’s offshore wind power bidding volume has increased significantly. By October 2022, the bidding volume of offshore wind power has reached 23.62GW. In 2023, China’s offshore wind power delivery and grid-connected installed capacity will achieve substantial growth. The “14th Five-Year Plan for Modern Energy System” of the National Energy Administration clearly proposes to actively promote the clustered development of offshore wind power in the southeast coastal areas, and the installed capacity of offshore wind power will reach 71GW and 132GW respectively by 2035 and 2050. During the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, China has planned five offshore bases of 10,000 MW level, and the scale of offshore wind power development plans issued by various regions has reached 80,000 MW, which will promote the faster development of offshore wind power. With the promotion of large-scale offshore wind power, many offshore wind power projects have achieved parity.
Offshore wind power is recognized as an important carrier for achieving energy transformation and carbon neutrality, but its future development also faces challenges in accelerating the breakthrough of technological bottlenecks, accelerating the sustainable development of industrial supply chain and reducing costs. At the same time, China’s export of wind power equipment is entering an explosive growth stage, and is expected to achieve exponential growth during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period.
The “5th China Offshore Wind Power Construction and Operation Excellence Summit” will be held in Shanghai from May 18 – 19, 2023. The Summit will bring together well-known domestic and foreign power groups, energy investors, offshore wind power plants, design and research institutes and advanced material and equipment suppliers to discuss the development prospects of domestic offshore wind power, exchange the latest technology and technology applications of offshore wind power and seek the best partners.
